News: JMW Pair Crucial to England Ashes Success

24/08/2009

Cricketers Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson, who are both represented by the sports team at law firm JMW Solicitors LLP, were part of the England team that regained the Ashes yesterday at the Oval.

Stuart Broad took 6 wickets and scored 66 runs during the Fifth and final deciding Test against Australia. His excellent bowling saw him take 5 wickets for 37 on day two of the Fifth Test, as well as scoring 37 runs during England's first innings and then a further 29 during their second. During the Forth Test at Headingly Broad took 6 wickets for 91, his best figures in a Test match, and then scored a rapid 61 runs off 49 balls. His excellent all-round performances, at both the Oval and at Headingly, has seen people comparing him to Andrew Flintoff, who is retiring from Test cricket. After playing 22 Tests for England, Stuart has scored more runs and taken twice as many wickets than Flintoff had at the same stage in his career.

Stuart Broad was named Man of the Match and is also England's highest wicket taker of the series with 18 wickets.

Craig Sackfield, Senior Player Management Executive and part of the sports team at JMW that represent Stuart Broad commented;

"Stuart has played magnificently in the Ashes series, especially during the last two Tests. He has shown that he is a wonderful all-rounder which of course has drawn comparisons between himself and Andrew Flintoff. These performances have illustrated that he is going to have a phenomenal career ahead of him and we have already been approach by some major brands about sponsorship and endorsement deals. We believe that Stuart's profile both on and off the field is going to rocket in the coming weeks and months and we are going to work hard to secure him some fantastic sponsorships with huge brand names whilst we know he will continue to work hard on the field for England."

Jimmy Anderson, who is also represented by the sports team at JMW, has also played a crucial part in England's Ashes win. He is England's third best wicket taker in the series, taking 12 wickets throughout and also played a major role in helping England to drawn the first Test match in Cardiff by being part of the last-wicket pair that did not get out.

England now begin a series of one day and Twenty20 matches against Australia and JMW's cricket trio of Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson and Luke Wright all feature in England's one-day squad for these games.

Craig Sackfield comments;

"This has been an amazing Ashes series with a fantastic outcome with England regaining the Ashes again and we are so pleased that two of the players we represent, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad, have played a major part in this. I believe that cricket's profile is going to rise even higher again after this brilliant win for England and Anderson and Broad are now both big household names. The next few weeks are going to be very exciting for both Stuart and Jimmy in terms of sponsorship and endorsements deals as we already have some meetings set up with big brands. After this win the future is looking very bright for English cricket and its stars."
